Description

Canada: WWII Birks Memorial Bar to L/CPL. E.C. CUMMINGS 6th Hussars

Edgar Charles Cummings died due to a fractured skull on the 14th of October, 1942. The injury was due to hitting his head on a pole while riding in an army vehicle.

"MEREDITH LAFLAMME, on oath, saith: "I am a Trooper in the H.Q. Squadron, 5th Canadian Armoured Division. I was sitting on the front of the roof and Cummings got up beside me. Trooper Morris was also on the roof. I heard Cummings talking, then he stopped. I looked round and saw him about to fall from the roof. Morris yelled Cummings' name. I gripped Cummings by the shoulder and yelled for the truck to be stopped. It stopped and I jumped off and lowered him to the ground. Morris had been sitting close to Cummings, behind me. Cummings and I had been drinking together: he was already there when I arrived at 8.45.""
