Design: All four coins share the same inspiring reverse design by Canadian artist Caren Heine. In the foreground, a slightly stylized sugar maple (Acer saccharum) leaf anchors the design and is positioned centrally, much like the 11-pointed maple leaf at the centre of Canada's national flag. Detailed engraving re-creates the deeply cut veins that run through each of the leaf's five lobes, as they do in the two larger maple leaves that flank it on both sides. The reverse proof finish heightens the brilliance of this splayed arrangement of traditionally engraved leaves; but a closer look at the field on both the reverse and obverse reveals a uniquely patterned backdrop consisting of laser-engraved maple leaves, which add contemporary flair to this classic design. The word "CANADA" and the year "2018" are struck incuse on each coin's reverse, along with the purity and weight. Each obverse includes the coin's face value and the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth by Susanna Blunt.
