The Parisian was launched on November 8, 1880. She commenced her maiden voyage from Liverpool to Halifax and Boston on March 10, 1881. She was one of the largest vessels yet built; and the first to have "bilge keels" which are keels on the side of the ship designed to lessen the tendency to roll.
